Being headstrong is an understatement where Michaela is concerned. When her parents took her away from La Push, and the one girl, hell person she had ever really loved, due to one measily broken arm, she was a little more than resistent. Usually when they threatened to call the cops on her as a runaway or this and that, she wouldn't have cared, but she wasn't letting all of her family ties go. No matter how controling they were, she still loved them. The thing was, a year and a half later, after leaving La Push, she had learned the insight and understanding to why her arm had gotten broken in the first place. Her parents had chosen to take it as a big fat red flag to the place they'd lived even before her birth, and the people in it. She wasn't a rebellious teenager, like a lot of people. In fact, she was president of the drama club, the main soloist in choir, and the student body spirit vice president, with honors grades and more than enough friends. She just had a problem of being contained by rules or forced into a belief or direction she didn't want. When her parents did this, those times were her only rebellious times. Being handled, confined by a set of conditions only rational to someone else was never her idea of a utopia. ( They'll never get it. They'll never understand. They just won't. ) Even though she was twenty and past not only her teenage years of her years of parental confinement, she still couldn't manage to part from their wanted path for her. It was only the last few weeks after careful observation of her life, and a blowout with her mom that finally convinced her that she really needed to be on her own. But even as she set out to go somewhere artistic like New York (with an acceptance into Julliard, not to mention), she couldn't help but look back on her life and miss the things she had had in her small town of La Push, Washington. The Rez was her home, no matter where she was, and someone special there was still in her heart. She needed to confront her past, and with Micha, she decided to do it as she always did - headon.

Michaela was also known for not being very subtle or secretive. When she liked someone, she voiced or expressed it so openly she might as well jump into your arms and beg you to be hers. She isn't about all the games people play and likes things to be said straight and people to say what they mean. She hates dancing around the matter and cuts straight to the core. So, it was no surprise that like the 'visit' she was about to bestow upon one Kaleigh Black, she had also made her presence back in the town quite obvious to the previously mentioned girl. She'd confronted her up front with the matter that she was back in town, and wasn't all to subtle on the matter of why. Michaela had been fine moving away, once she was actually there. She didn't have quite the long list of extracirriculars as she had at La Push High, but hey, when a girl is torn from the only world she knew for her entire life, its to be expected she might not adjust well. But being back was like finally knowing yourself. She'd lost herself in the time she'd been gone, and she was ready to make a stake in this town again. Afterall, people had either been friends with her. She knocked loudly on the front door, a little impatient at how cold she was. Weren't werewolves suppose to be their own personal superhearters? It was getting close to winter, and hell, it was Washington, so when it started getting cold it started getting BITTER cold. "God, let me in already, dammit." She breathed loudly, but more for herself, hoping somehow the words of demand would cause her insides to warm her outsides.

Kaleigh Black and Michaela Lovato hadn't always had the most easygoing relationship. Hell, sometimes they were seemingly at each other's throats. But they loved each other. Their passion eminated off of them so other people felt it, and wanted cigarettes afterwards - seriously. They disagreed on tons of things, but they agreed on how madly in love they were. And Michaela had never stopped. Not from the moment her parents had dragged her away (and yes she kicked and screamed literally the whole way) and not from the moment she had heard news of this and that about the old town and her old flame. She wasn't sure her own intentions coming back, except to clear the air. She didn't want Kal feeling like some pathetic mess over what happened, and a part of her, actually most of her demanded she jump into Kal's arms and demand she love her again. Mostly, she hoped something was still there. Because even though her family had taken her away, they hadn't extinguished an ounce of the passion she felt from before. Maybe she just wanted closure, because honestly, if anyone had seen her small line of so-called 'relationships' since she had left La Push - they'd see one failed attempt after another. While everyone figured she was just adjusting to being new in her new home, she was actually still upset over every memory and feeling she had had to leave behind. Or at least, what her parents wanted her to. "Let it go Chaela. Let it go. That part of your life is over." Her mom would plead helplessly for hours with her, usually ending in a fullout shouting match. "I just want you to be happy. That toxic past doesn't have to be your future. You are so talented. You can have anything you want. Even the sky can't contain you. You're limitless."

[/color] Maybe her mom was right. Her acceptance with full tuition scholarship to Julliard proved that. The sky wasn't her limit, she had none. But she couldn't possibly move on into the future without a clear ending to the past, now could she? So here she is - back in La Push, determined for anything so she can just live her life. Whether that means becoming the star her mom convinced her she was, or staying in the small town for something in her past, she wasn't sure. The only thing she was sure of, was she had to do this. She just had to.[/size]

[/i][/color] she mused wryly, recalling forth when years ago, the big two oh would have seemed like a gravestone, the world in her eyes back then nothing more than a limitless fountain of youth. Love itself had meant differently back then as well, and consisted more of walking a girl to class, or taking her to a school dance and not caring what anyone else thought, or studying together when every teenager knew it was code for flirting instead. Passing notes between classes, it had all been very simple, very part of the average teen’s experience.

Though not everything was average, Kaleigh remembered with a jolt; of course, how could she overlook the fact coming back to Washington meant returning the very places her memories were made to begin with? Wasn’t it those stairs, that she had fallen once as a child and sprained her wrist when she wasn’t looking, too busy chasing Spencer who had already shot down the hall by then? Wasn’t it at that spot in the kitchen she had tried to concoct, at ten years old, a peanut butter and jelly milkshake with eight year old Archer, failing miserably and destroying their mother’s favorite blender? And Jace, too, when she beat him once by stroke of luck at Playstation, and he pouted consistently until she bought him a limited edition trading card. This entire place…[/color] Wistfully, Kaleigh could only trail off in thought, minding the very same couch she lay upon, that had once been shared by holding another body close during freezing fall and winter, with her. With a sheepish edge, she realized she might have been smart to go out today, to Port Angeles maybe, see a movie or do some shopping in their mall; Kaleigh had, none too slyly, been avoiding the other girl since her arrival back in La Push. It frustrated her, only slightly, why everyone had to be appearing back, the same place, more or less around the same time. There were only too many runaways she could deal with returning, admitting one of them being herself. But Michaela Lovato? Maybe it’s too cold,[/color] she thought with false hope; if weather could deter one of the most stubborn girls she knew, then Kaleigh was a vampire. Rain, sleet, snow, or shine – she knew, one way or another, Michaela would find her way to Kal, no matter how much she tried to put it off.

Not out reluctance, as one might assume, or even harbored ill will as could be the case in the typical ex relationship: it was fear. It was the scary, honest to God frightening unknown of what she would be forced to acknowledge again once they would meet. And maybe that was why, with the sharp knock on the front door, Kaleigh set aside her book and rose slowly, as if walking to war. Perhaps she was, in a way: their arguments had always left the occasional spectator baffled and ducking for cover simultaneously, but would even that be there again, resurfacing from over six years ago? Fourteen. I was just fourteen.[/color] Fourteen years old and head over heels with her first love, and the anger in their fights only giving slight insight of the passion they held for each other. Still, her stomach flopped like she was a freshman in high school all over again with the words she heard past the foyer. God, let me in already, dammit. “Same old hot head,”[/color] she murmured while rolling her eyes, half in accepted defeat, half in nostalgia. Kal did a once-over of her outfit, making sure she hadn’t spilled any coffee on herself from earlier, and finished her slow padding to the front door. She was barefoot, as she always liked to be inside her house, and it didn’t retract from the normal warm, comfortable temperature that didn’t so much as touch her from the chilly wind that lurked outside. Minding that, Kaleigh unlocked the door and swung it open, glancing quickly from toe-to-head, the girl she had last seen as a newly phased werewolf, suddenly locked onto her eyes and unable to tear away. Swallowing the nerves from her throat, she made a small noise of acknowledgement, nodding her head. Then, pale green eyes lightened. “Could you knock any harder? You know Mom likes the furniture,”[/color] she remarked dryly, as if no time had lapsed between them at all, and the metaphorical elephant in the room hadn’t existed at all. Maybe she could joke her way through the meeting. Maybe, if she hadn’t been looking at Michaela Lovato, straight into the eyes and feelings of her past.

The moment her face came into view and her sweet smell filled Michaela's nostrils, she became aware that none of the past did matter - not for her. It hadn't ended for her, and it still wasn't over. The only self-restraint that Michaela could muster up was keeping her from doing something she'd imagined in her sleep for weeks once she'd left La Push. She'd never even had an official end to their relationship - something solid. When she said this to her mother, she'd only yell at her about how if a broken arm wasn't enough then she didn't know what was. Her mom assumed that the bickering and fights they often had had made Kal go violent in a physical way, but that wasn't it. It was Chae's fault. She'd gotten her mad, and while she didn't understand the importance of it at that time, she did now. It wasn't Kal's fault. It was hard to resist the change once you got angry, even for the most advanced werewolves from what she was aware. There were even times now she'd had to control her self, cool off in her mind when her mom and her had gotten into one of their usual fights - usually stemming from any reference to Micha's old life or the love she'd been forced to leave behind. "Are you kidding me? You and I both know that you've hated that old stuffy couch forever. You'd be glad to see it gone." It was easy being this way - joking, back to their old tricks. All they needed was the flaming passion and the bickering and they were all set. Any other person would have hated the relationship she'd had with Kal, but not Micha, no. The passion behind the fighting always made for make-ups that proved their love. People didn't understand that, they couldn't. Something that passionate could only be understood by feeling it. And with Kal is was entirely different too. She'd never been that way with another person, not the way she was with Kal. Before her time with her, and even after, no one had managed to come close.

"What can I say? I don't even know my own strength." It was obviously a joke about how she was now a werewolf too and that the fact of what happened didn't bother her. "That happens sometimes doesn't it?" This was her way of getting to the point, hopefully poking the big pink elephant and finding out it was just a big balloon. She didn't blame Kal, she hadn't then and she didn't now - she couldn't. If anything, she blamed her parents for taking her away. It all could have been alright. She could have made Chae understand, they could have managed to be together. She didn't see why they couldn't try now. She wanted to try - she needed to. The thing about Michaela was when she wanted something, she went for it, no question, and her persistence for anything has been legend to friends, family, and teachers alike. It was also what made her a great actress - her persistence to keep going even in rejection. Her strive for Julliard had been unexpected and not even a hope. She was planning on community college in Washington, anywhere that was close enough to La Push. Her heart was whole here, sure for the obvious reason, but because you couldn't give up home and that was what the Rez had always been - her home. The only other type of home she'd known was being with Kal. It'd always seemed ridiculous and damn near pathetic to people how madly in love she'd been with her, and in all honesty how much she still loved her to this day, but it made sense to her. People couldn't understand love unless they felt it, the subconscious need to show their jealousy that most didn't realize they had won over the need to feel happy for the people close to you. "I forgot how much I missed it here. Back in La Push." She'd already gotten out the thing she wanted to say, and pushing it any further on Kal in the first moments of their 'reunion' wasn't going to accomplish anything. But Micha wasn't leaving easily, and she wasn't giving up easy either, actually not at all.

"Aren't you going to ask me why I'm here? - You'd think you'd be surprised to see your ex after all this time. But maybe I don't mean that much." The end of it was simply a joke, because it was obvious that at one time, maybe even now, Kaleigh had loved Chaela, maybe more than she'd love someone before, but Micha didn't just think something and not say it. It was obvious this wasn't going to be the breezy reunion she'd hoped for, but it didn't mean all was ruined. She hoped that come closure or clarification could come, but mostly hoped that closure didn't actually mean the entire closing of the topic. She didn't want to lose Kal all over again, and she didn't know how to be just a friend. They hadn't had the chance to try anything - healing, friendship. It was just love to nothing. Chaela wasn't ready to believe it was all over, not after the long battle on her side. Maybe Kal had already surrendered and Chae simply didn't get the memo and kept fighting all this time for a lost cause or a way that someone else managed to win instead. If it'd been a war, it would have racked up numbers on both sides, no one left without a scar, and all because of unexplainable or unforseen forces squeezing into the mix. Life could have been different, it should have been.
