could you see i want you by the way i push you away? don't judge me tomorrow by the way i'm acting today. -------------------- Of course, there had to be, considering she had all but wracked every nook and cranny of her brain to think of a reason why she'd want to bring the little kid (though apparently not as little as she was, she noted with a grumble; being vertically challenged was never as vexing) food to eat. And there really wasn't one, unless she wanted to lace it with rat poison, but she didn't dislike the boy that much, so therefore Kaliana was left with, well, nothing. Or actually something, that happened to be her standing stupidly in front of his house for a good ten minutes, deciding whether or not to actually knock. It would have been a waste to drive here just to walk away, she figured, never minding the fact the drive was less than eight minutes considering they both lived on the reservation and she could have very well just walked as well (instead maybe during the attempt to convince herself to turn away, taking her "escape car" if she should need to exit quickly). So with that in mind, she raised her hand and knocked lightly on the door, stepping back and biting down on her lower lip self-consciously. Maybe, Kaliana wondered vaguely, she could leave the wrapped dishes on his doorstep, run, put the car in ignition, and speed off before anyone - especially him - knew any better. Then again, she reminded herself she was visiting a home of werewolves, two of which would have been able to recognize her scent on the food and utensils. It'd never work. She sighed at the realization there truly was no going back now, and began to wait for someone to open the door. "C'mon, JB, open up," she muttered under her breath, a small frown tugging at the corners of her lips. Kaliana grimaced at the prospect of having Kaleigh answer the door instead, if she happened to be home; there was no way that confrontation could go over well, not without snarling and threats and the same childish insults they Kal hurled at each other her. Kaliana was the mature one in the rivalry, of course, there was no doubting that, except maybe a person that had heard the story on both accounts; but besides that it was Kal all the way, totally. Even having the runaway sister answer the door was better than Kaleigh, though Kaliana wasn't sure what that one might've thought, not that it mattered. She didn't care what the Blacks thought of her, anyway. Not even Jacen. Especially Jacen. Kaliana sighed again, thinking she could be at home right now, flipping through the channels on TV, or shoving Casey into the kitchen to teach him how to cook considering he wryly commented he'd never need to if his big sister was always doing the meal-planning anyway. His sarcasm had really grown in the past year, though the bitter edge of it was new and raw at some times with even her, both of them coping their own ways with the loss of their mother. The news was still very much recent, at least in the way Casey was still getting sympathetic looks through his dark scowls at school (thankfully earning no trouble, perhaps from his old reputation as a good kid, or hers if it lingered at Forks High after she graduated) and Kaliana decided it was the finalizing push she needed to move back home. University out of state really wasn't all that interesting, anyway, or the colleges in general; she was taking basic classes now at a community school, though that hadn't sparked her desire for higher education, either. She was convinced she needed a career that would take years of study and degree, though nothing she saw held that... passion. Ignoring the thoughts and worry, Kaliana tossed them to the back of her mind as she shifted in her spot, rolling her eyes at the door. "Don't you know how to open a door, JB?" she asked herself quietly, realizing how often she was using her own nickname for him now, and trying to stifle the small smile that became of it. She bit her lip again. No, she didn't care. Technically. [/ul] -------------------- APPAREL 2nd!MUSIC tangled up in me - skye sweetnam WITH jacen black. SETTING jacen's house! NOTES x]

There were a number of things that a teenaged male could…well should be doing on a nice morning like this. Such as maybe going out for a walk, or maybe calling up some friends and going out to lunch. You know, the sort of things that his other two siblings were probably doing at this very moment, though of course Jacen Black viewed himself as a rebel. Someone who was fighting what everyone else was doing in order to stand out, then again he was in his house. Sitting around on the couch in his living room, debating whether or not he actually wanted to stand up and go in and make himself food. Groaning under his breath a bit, he ran his hand through some of the messy unbrushed hair, biting the bottom of his lip as he glanced between the cartoon he was watching and then the kitchen as well. “To eat, or not to eat, now that is the question.” grumbling under his breath, he would have to find himself a new saying, he probably shouldn’t be insulting hamlet the way that he had come to do over the years. Each time he stated something he would always use the infamous line from that play. But oh well, finally deciding on staying here until the end of the show was the thing that Jacen felt won over in his mind. A smile returning to his lips he leaned back in his seat and placed his feet up on the table, hands resting behind his head. Oh how this would definitely turn out to be a good morning, especially since there were no sisters around to poke fun at him, or find a reason to torment him ever since the two of them had decided to spontaneously come home on the same day not all that long ago.
But when it came to the commercial break, something caught Jacen’s attention, something that would be one of the few things that would draw his attention away from his morning cartoons. And well, honestly the first thing that he seemed to pick up on was that familiar scent. Something that he would hardly ever smell, but when he did he always knew it would turn out to be something rather silly on his part, or something annoyed on her part. Leaning forward a large grin came to his features as he looked towards the front door, where the light kicking he had come to pick up on. “Well, well.” mumbling as he stretched upwards, glancing between the door and then the TV once more, he found himself debating. The girl he totally adored, or the cartoon characters that he found to be so amusing? Waiting until Jacen was sure that the show wasn’t about to return anytime soon he decided he might as well let her in. Besides, it smelled like maybe there was a certain present that she had for him, something that would help solve the dilemma he had been facing only a couple minutes before hand. Oh how he knew that this would be a very awkward time for little miss Kaliana, but how it would be such a smug time for himself. Perhaps he would take this opportunity of stuffing his face to also have Kaliana learn the finer things, such as Batman, or maybe Jacen would be able to find some good episodes of Spiderman. Either way, he knew this would be one of the few times that he would ever get in order to actually show Kaliana just who he was, and who knew maybe she would be much more accepting than maybe she would be willing to show under other circumstances. Okay, so Jacen knew that he was the dorkiest of dorks, and she was miss popularity, the girl who could probably have any guy that she wanted to have. But that didn’t mean that he didn’t stand a chance, did it?
Taking his own sweet time Jacen walked over towards the door, again running his hand through his hair, though this time it would be so it didn’t look too messy. Or like he hadn’t just been sitting around for a couple of hours watching television. A soft chuckle escaped his lips as he then stared at the front door for a moment, and rolled his eyes when he heard the nickname she had come up with. Where, and why, she had come up with that nickname was still something that he was trying to figure out, that and he was still trying to get out the reasoning behind it from her. Licking his lips a bit he took hold of the door handle and then opened the door and grinned rather widely, ”Why of course I know how to open a door, what a silly question that is.” looking to the food that she had with him he rose a brow a bit, ”Are you planning to throw some sort of party here without informing me or something? Or is there some other sort of catch?” of course, Jacen knew very well that he could probably devour a good portion of that food in a matter of minutes. Especially since he could hear his stomach growl when he inhaled some of the scent, side stepping out of the way so Kaliana could enter he looked around the house quickly. Or what he could see of the house, making sure it was clean enough, and when he felt confident enough with it he turned back to face her. “Do you want some help with that?” asking with that sort of smug look coming to his features.

could you see i want you by the way i push you away? don't judge me tomorrow by the way i'm acting today. -------------------- grin stretched so widely it looked like it could've hurt. Personally, she firmly believed there was no doubting the sincerity she felt that she wished it did hurt him. That cocky little punk. It must have just been the Blacks in their line or something; if it infected Kaleigh, then it surely was passed down to Jacen as well. It was about time someone deflated his overinflated ego, God only knew how the hell he got his big head out of the door every day. If he ever even went outside to begin with, as Kaliana wouldn't be so surprised if he sat in his boxers all day and read Marvel comics. He probably did, come to think about it, though the visual did nothing but further pronounce her scowl at him. How dare he, a stupid kid have the nerve to get under her skin! Something was clearly wrong with him in the head. In medieval times, he would have been beheaded. Then again, she might've been, too, considering she was the one to seek him out, and that might have contributed to his little peppy attitude. She growled ever so lightly at him, eyebrows narrowing, looking up at him like - ugh, looking up at him! He was sixteen! And here Kaliana was, a whole three years older, having to look up at a stupid brat that clearly had issues deciphering the appropriate times to just shut up. "I was under the impression you were slightly mentally retarded," she shot back in a huff, indignant at his blatant cheeriness. Stupid kid. A catch. Oh, if only. That would be so much more reasonable, make so much more sense if she had a valid excuse to why she was doing this. Instead, she had none, and Kaliana shifted her sunglasses evasively with her free hand, glad the dark shades wouldn't allow their eyes to completely meet; call it the mark of a defense mechanism, she could see him but he couldn't see her, and that made so much more of a difference. The older girl was in the middle of thinking hard of any sort of flimsy excuse that would do to satiate his question, before the rumbling of his stomach caused her eyebrows to arch bemusedly. "Well, there are so many children starving in the world, I thought I'd do my part and feed one brat," Kaliana remarked coolly, her collected tone not daring to betray the hum in her chest that was quickening in pace as soon as he had opened the door; at least he hadn't done anything to make her flush, or that would surely be the end of her cool and the end of his life. "So no catch, JB, it's on the house." She finished indifferently, not bothering to remove her sunglasses as she entered the Black household and winced at the smell of his eldest sister. Her nose wrinkled and distaste, and only regretably did she turn back to Jacen, raising an inquiring brow. "By any chance, is your sister here? I value my sanity," she explained, frowning just slightly; the smell was all over, like the rest of the Blacks, but it wasn't as strong, so maybe she left the house earlier? It was all Kaliana could hope, as she didn't doubt that as soon as dearest Kal came home, she'd recognize her scent in an instant, hackles raised and snarls ablaze like her stupid temper flared childishly whenever it came to the oldest Sheppard kid. Then again, it might have even been worth it to taunt and probably fight with Kaleigh now than have to deal with Jacen alone and his arrogant little look of his; she wondered if Kal would be upset if she broke his nose. Probably. Ugh, that god damned smug face of his! There were two reflex reactions: to punch him or to disembowel his insides. Both probably not very smart ideas, but tempting all the same whenever he just looked at her like that. How much more self assured could he be? For God's sake, Jace acted like sometimes he had some sort of hold over her, like she wouldn't be able to stop talking to him from time to time if she tried. Well, she could, and she had, hadn't she? That year away at college, Kaliana had e-mailed and wrote letters, but other than that, she never made any cross country plane flights just to see those stupid brown eyes that glittered when he smirked, or that lit up face of a kid on Christmas the second she ever baited him with anything to do with any mention of a superhero or villain. So yes, Kaliana Sheppard was indeed capable of ignoring Jacen Black's existence, after all it wasn't a very hard thing to do by any means, he didn't pop up the places she seemed to. It was just... good manners, sure, to show up with food considering she just moved back in and two of his sisters came back home. Though neighbors usually gave the new arrivals food and she didn't cook for either Archer or Kaleigh, but that was neither here nor there. The point was, Kaliana could quit Jace cold turkey if she really wanted to. But right now, said turkey was warm and inviting throughout that idiotic look on its face - and who the hell came up the expression quitting "cold turkey", anyway? It was stupid. Almost as stupid as Jacen. "Well, it is your food," Kaliana rolled her eyes, handing out the bag to him. The wafts of pasta rigatoni in tomato and three cheeses sauce, baked french bread, and chocolate eclairs somehow reached her sensitive nose even through the containers they were tightly sealed in, and for a split second she worried - however foolish that might have been, considering she was an excellent cook and had been preparing that dish for years, and besides, she couldn't name anyone that had ever complained about her culinary skills. But even if he did, it wouldn't matter. It wasn't like she was trying to impress him or do him a nice gesture, or anything. Jacen was definitely highly amused, being able to make her squirm inwardly, something he had come to learn how to do over the months he had known her. Of course, this was Kaliana Sheppard, the girls who knew how to push just the right buttons and drive him insane simply for her own entertainment with no concern towards his well being. And yet, for whatever reason he absolutely adored that little factor about her, it was simply part of what made Kaliana who she was, and so whenever she started it came as no surprise to him. There were definitely times when Jacen Black had begun to wonder just how long this game that the two of them had started would continue to go on; just how much more time Kaliana was willing to spend with him. It wasn’t like she didn’t have other options, other people closer to her age that would probably give their right arm and leg to be considered as her’s. Shaking his head the light curls that rested on top his head moved with the head movement, a light curl of a smile coming to his features. Laughter formed from the smile; again the dark haired male shook his head a bit. ”Me? A retard? That is hardly the case, and if I hadn’t known you as well as I do, then I would take that as a true insult.” winking at the female for a second before, moving from his spot, closing the door once she had come through.
Jacen rose a brow when he saw her move the glasses, and he mentally sighed, oh how she would always try to hide herself away. Something that Jacen had become so used to, during the time that he had come to know miss Kaliana Sheppard, well along with any of the other Sheppards that he had ran into. Well, meaning both her and her brother, that was about it, she was lucky in the sense that there were millions of Black span running around La Push and Forks. ”Ohho. That one really hurt, Kaliana, right there, in the middle of my chest where my heart used to be.” folding his arms over his chest as he made a dramatic sigh come from his lips, though really he was trying to keep back the laughter that was starting to form in his throat. Of course, the fact that laughter was going to come from Jacen was probably anything other than unexpected; in fact it was very easy to tell that the male found this all to be rather amusing. Then again, Jacen had always found himself to be smiling when he was around the girl who had graced herself with her presence. But to let on, that much emotion that much feeling out of nowhere with a girl who had always been rather skittish around this sort of thing, Jacen knew that it was going to be a bad idea, and so he had taught himself how to keep most of it locked away. And as long as it meant that there was a chance that there was still this playfulness between the two of them, then Jacen was perfectly content with that. He would stick with what he could get, when he could get it, and as long as she didn’t catch on too quickly then everything would be fine, or so he hoped. ”Oh the house, huh? Such a rare treat, which would have thought there could be two rare treats in one day?”
he asked, a bark like laugh escaping from his throat, especially at the next thing said. ”No, neither one of my sisters are here, at least the last time I checked they weren’t. I have no idea where they went, or even when they are coming back.” he stated glancing towards the clock, “So your sanity is still perfectly fine.”Sticking his tongue out Jacen couldn’t help but keep that oh so content grin on his face, as he rubbed his hands together and cackled in a playful over dramatic way. ”I have you just where I want you!” okay, so Jacen had been watching way to many cartoons over the last couple days. Especially the ones, where for whatever reason, the villain would capture the said super heroes love interest, and then state something along the lines of that. It was something that had become all too familiar and predictable to Jacen Black, the King of comic book nerds. The boy who had secretly writing his own comic book for several months now, and he had yet to say anything about it to anyone. Especially not to Kaliana that stood before him, now that would simply be something that she would never stop laughing about, something she would never let him forget. And then he got another strong smell of the food that she had cooked, that Kaliana had cooked for him, and for him alone, though he had planned to offer some of the food she had cooked right back to her. It would simply be impolite if he ate it all right in front of her, and he had been raised much better than that by his mother. ”Well, I’m sure whatever you cooked, it will be very good.” Jacen said with a grin as he took the bag and walked towards where the kitchen was. ”Come on slow poke." he said as he placed the plastic bad down and moved over to the cabinets and pulled down two plates, hey just cause she may not eat didn’t mean he shouldn’t pull down two plates. Pushing aside the large sketch pad in order to make room for the food, before pulling out the different containers of food that Kaliana had made and that smile seemed to widen as he looked it over. ”This really does look quite good Kali.” Looking back to her he sat down and the patted the seat that was next to his, and oh yes, it could definitely be considered as either childish or playful, or maybe a mix of the two. But hey, he was simply offering the second seat with the second plate to her. APPAREL der, what adam brody is wearing.MUSIC No Rest For the Wicked - Cage The Elephant. could you see i want you by the way i push you away? don't judge me tomorrow by the way i'm acting today. -------------------- she rolled her eyes at this; how dare he think he could make assumptions on whether or not she meant something just because they happened to hang out sometimes... on a regular basis... which involved talking, not the typical sleazy guy's move to get her in the backseat. And of course, of course the prick in question would have the audacity to wink his little stupid wink and have that be that. But it wouldn’t be. Not when she was here to rightfully put the little punk in his place, which was preferably below her in all standards. ”I hope that was something in your eye,” remarked Kaliana matter-of-factly, “Otherwise I’d be so inclined to commit manslaughter. And this is a nice welcome mat, I’d hate to stain it.” How she absolutely loathed, just hated the idea that whatever she said, Jacen would have something to hold over her head that she couldn’t form a defense against: she wanted to spend time with him, and that was why she was here. But still, she couldn’t quite wrap her head around the concept she had presented herself with, it was much too alien to her to possibly make sense of, like a foreign film with grainy subtitles or one of those comic book characters Jace always went on about. Besides, no matter how mystifying the matter at hand was, it wasn’t like the answer would ever be justifiable enough because, well, he was a Black. And that was reason enough. And it wasn’t like he ever had to know, anyway, because the last thing Kaliana Brooke Sheppard would do is admit that she wanted a sixteen year old that wasn’t family around. For God’s sake, she was nineteen, and perfectly well capable of finding others her own age to play around with. Then again, most nineteen year olds were living in dorms and hosting frat parties, so she was a little out of place in the tiny town to find fresh faces; not that any had served her any use when she had lived in any of those dorms herself. They were all the same: tall, built, cocky grins that only widened measurably more so with the suggestion of “wanting to give her a tour of the frat”, or other excuses that only merited a famous eye roll and shove backwards as she left the party. It was one thing to play along with the games of superficiality in high school, but wasn’t college meant to be about finding yourself? And she hadn’t found that there, hadn’t found that escaping did anything any good, and coming back had been the right decision as tragedy struck home. And of course, there had been other benefits, one being the pup in front of her that was just begging to be socked. “Yeah, yeah, whatever,” she shrugged dismissively, perhaps coming off a tad bit too nonchalant, “Don’t fall into habit, I just don’t like having extra food in the house, that’s all.” That, actually, had some truth to it: the same reason she would refuse take out nine times of ten, Kaliana didn’t particularly enjoy the taste of leftover – and oftentimes stale – food. What she had failed to mention to him might have been the fact she had cooked the dishes especially for him, and not, as she insinuated, the remnants of a meal made for her family instead. Instead she watched him as he stole a look towards the clock in the room, and she breathed an internal sigh of relief with the satisfaction she wouldn’t be arguing head on with a particular Black today. Well, a Black, but she’d keep quiet that this one was much more preferable. Kaliana didn’t fail to roll her eyes again and punch him in his midsection – albeit lightly – when he apparently seemed to have mixed the definitions to “invite in” with “act like a two year old”, though if she took the time to reconsider it, a two year old and Jacen Black would have plenty in common. But, hey, he didn’t drool, so that was an accomplishment in itself. However, she hesitantly lingered on his front doorstep for a second, at least until his words had actually struck home and registered conscious thought in her mind. Well, I’m sure whatever you cooked, it will very good. Something very much resembling a light flush tinted her cheeks, and she looked away from him immediately, almost not taking notice that he was moving towards the kitchen. To say the La Push native had been rendered speechless, would have been an understatement; Kaliana opened and closed her mouth once or twice to retort back, only to shake her head and follow Jacen inside, with a slightly anxious set in her shoulders. Of course this was a bad idea. Although, she eyed his sketchpad curiously with a raised brow, silently wishing she could ask him just what he drew, if that wouldn’t have meant a) admitting she was interested in something he did, and b) she really did care to be here right now, despite all the false pretenses. She bit down on her lip as he examined the food, her expression a strange one: it might have resembled nervousness, or self-consciousness, perhaps. But when he had spoken the tension had faded and furthermore, with the patting of the seat, relaxed her in some weird way, and a small smirk showed the slightest glimmer on her lips. Kaliana had even dared to take off her sunglasses and place them in her bag as she took a seat, turning just slightly to get a better look at him. “Am I going to have to spoon feed you, JB, or did they teach you how to use forks in preschool today?” she inquired him delicately – surprisingly, the smirk turning to a light smile.
