Close up camera one
The hero sings in this scene
The boy that gets the girl gets to go home where they get married
But stop the tape,
The sunset still looks fake to me
The hero looks like he can't breathe
The damsel just left everything
Somewhere in the world there are people who still believe in their own little fairy tale endings. Who believe that the world was painted in black and white, that there are just heroes and villains and nothing in between. And of course, the heroes always win, and the villains always see the error of their ways, cause thats the way the story goes. There is no such thing as gray. There is no such thing as an error of judgement on the part of the hero, a reason behind the madness of the villain. That isn't how the story works.
But since when has life been a fairy tale? After all, real life has that little middle area, that little mess of gray that swirls and distorts the rest and exposes the hidden truths that lie behind the masks. That pulls on the strings and exposes the hero for what he is, or perhaps twists things up so you don't know what's right, what's wrong, what's up or what's down. And thats what separates the real world from the stories. The fact that nothing is ever as it seems, that there is no one right answer. That it all depends on whose story you're hearing, which side you're on, what background fate saddled you with. All the little factors that add up to write the path you start to walk, if you so choose. Though there does come a time when people are faced with a choice, when they stand at the crossroads and have the option of turning one way or the other.
Very few understand this better than the lady Vivelle Grey. Then again, the Lady Grey isn't exactly your average young woman. Being a vampire sort of automatically excludes her from that category. But there is more to her than her.. "condition" that allows her to understand the harshness of life. Understand how unpredictable it can be, how awful and how wonderful. After all, little Miss Grey had the honor of being burdened with a very, very important task which she could never, ever breathe a word of to anyone, no matter who they were. No matter how close they were. Only dear Miss Grey had made the mistake of telling someone, once. Not that they understood what it meant, not that the understood what the things she was guarding could do. And there was more than her little guard post that made Lady Grey "special". The path her past set her on was a dark one, a hateful one, one lined with the broken pieces of what you could call her soul. It trained her to be heartless, ruthless, to always see the ends and not care about the means. The death of a wolf was just a means to an end. The people whose lives she had twisted in order to get what she wanted just a bump on the road. The little humanity she'd had that she'd left behind, mangled and unrecognizable, a sacrifice for the cause.
Until she missed a step. Until she got muddled up in the gray, got twisted and tossed around until she didn't know what was up or down, what was right or wrong. Until everything she'd considered so important... didn't seem so important.
But Vivelle has gotten over her missed step, the roadblock in her way. She has moved on during the year which she has been in hiding. She has put herself back together, straightened out her priorities and once again convinced herself of her own convictions. Once again she decided to walk her path alone (excluding her birds and Biscuit anyway), to corral herself by her actions and exile herself once more once she was done. After all, her mission is more important than all of that, more important than everything that lies in her way which just might get smashed, broken up and burned in the process. Worthy sacrifices, right? Means to an end... right? But unfortunately for Vivy the times during which she was made to question things, to examine herself, those are far from over. Thanks to the ever cruel hand of fate she manages to get cast into the path of two men who may just very well tear her apart or finally put the broken pieces together again. One of the two. Not that she knows which scenario will happen.
The two men in question seem to be polar opposites. One is utterly insane and completely without inhibitions, allowing Vivelle to be wild as well and encouraging her to give into her darker nature. With him, she feels uninhibited and finally, finally free, as if she could break away from her burden and live her own life for once. The other is kind, tragically wolfish, and always looking for a challenge. With him, she feels like she has a soul, like she has a chance at redemption, as if maybe she is not too far gone to be saved. Both of them make her happy, and both of them give her what she desires. But Vivy being the sort of woman that she is can't exactly decide what it is she desires more. Which feeling she simply could not live without. And being the selfish, self serving little creature she is, she refuses to choose. She refuses to face the choice she must make, and as always she just keeps dragging them down with her.
To make things worse, Vivy's little task is not so easy as she would have hoped. Some old faces from her past, some welcomed and others not, are starting to pop up. Some which bode well for the inhabitants of Forks and others... well, not so much. In addition to that, a few of what she guards managed to go and get lost, meaning that Vivy has to hunt for them as hard as she possibly can while her two male friends are twisting and tugging her every which way.
Whatever the outcome is, one thing is certain. Vivelle Grey will have to do the one thing she's never been able to do: pick a path, and stay on it. No matter what the consequences are.
